Fund-Raising Shows for Schools
2007

Alan at the Alaska State Fair

Alan Sands has initiated something for schools interested in doing a fund-raiser.

Alan believes in "Win/Win" situations. He hates to see organizations risking money on fund-raisers and lose money. This formula is created so schools can not loose money on a hypnosis show fund-raiser.

It's pretty straight forward:

  • Tickets are sold for a show by the parents & students
  • Alan gets the proceeds from the first 40 tickets
  • The fund-raising committee gets 60% of the remaining proceeds; & 40% goes to Alan Sands as his performance fee.
  • Alan supplies posters, tickets and a master brochure that can be photocopied for the students and sales people.
  • Alan will also supply a videotape that can be played at the school as a teaser in the lunch room or a school assembly.

Tickets are sold for two different prices:

  • Buy them in advance for the price of the local movie theater (roughly $8-$10)
  • Buy them at the door for $2 more. Kids under the age of ten get in for free accompanied by anyone who buys a full priced ticket.

I know, you're saying,
"There must be a catch. There always is.
What will this cost us, the committee?"

  • The committees purchases a $13 rubber stamp that says the DATE, TIME and PLACE used to imprint the back of the tickets Alan supplies.
  • Alan supplies one master brochure. The committee will have to photocopy the brochure.
  • Alan may also ask the committee to procure a hotel room for him for one night.

NOTHING ELSE. THAT'S IT!

Incentive to sell tickets

Anyone that sells 6 tickets gets a free ticket to the show. The tickets have a raffle ticket stub attached. People selling tickets write their name on the raffle stub. Raffle winners get free tickets to the event the fund-raising event supports (usually a prom or grad nite party.) Alan recommends for every 200 tickets sold a name is drawn. If your theater has 800 seats and all the tickets are sold, the committee gives away 4 tickets. Since tickets to the prom don't actually cost the committee anything, it's an affordable prize.

You should get multiple departments involved in selling the tickets to the show. For example, if the primary fundraising committee is the Grad Nite Party, the committee can also have the sports department sell tickets, the music department and the prom committee. You can be creative and decide on the percentage each committee gets from these "other committees" but I recommend a 50%/50% split.

If you say:
"Let's Proceed with the Fund-Raiser"

  • Alan and one member of your committee picks a date.
  • Alan will send you 30 posters and however many tickets you need (The number of seats in your performance space.)
  • Order your rubber stamp.

Alan will send you custom printed theater tickets. The committee rubber stamps them with the show date, time and place on the back. Alan will supply separate tickets to sell the night of the show for the higher price. The Committee sets the price of the tickets and Alan gets to approve the prices set so "there is an understanding." Alan works on a total honesty basis.

The tickets have a raffle stub attached. The Committee can do many things with the raffle stub:

  • People attending can win door prizes
  • People selling the tickets can win a prize by writing their names on the back of the 2nd stub.
  • The second stub can be used as a receipt, you collect the one half at the door.

Once the ticket prices are established, Alan Sands will write an agreement . This eliminates misunderstandings later.

Now all that's left is -- Let's pick a date!
