2011 December 7 - Today is Pearl Harbor Day. On this day in 1941, the largest single attack on American soil by an outside country or agency took place. Prior to this—from 1864 and earlier—only civil war battles had rung up high tolls of death and destruction in the United States. Since then it has been the Al-Qaeda terrorist attacks on New York City’s World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001.
When I was 18 or 19 years old, I was at a bar having $1 Kamakazee drinks to commemorate Pearl Harbor Day. Since then I have always had sushi on this date when possible. My sister, Robin Fife of All Star Showgrams, asked me last year if we will have hummus and falafel on September 11th in the future? After all, it is traditional to have Mexican food on May 5th for Cinco de Mayo (Mexico’s Independence Day), and my daughter, Jessica Lauderdale, thought up “Have pie on March 14th each year.” Think about it ...
Today I did a walk-through at the Santa Clara Convention Center for an event I will help produce there on Saturday, December 10th. I will help contract entertainment and entertainers for Intel’s Corporate Events. They will have a holiday party for 3,000 people on Saturday and my agency will supply the fortune tellers, caricaturists, and a magician.
I am in Intel’s parking lot now, waiting to talk to the client. Then I drive to Yuba City, CA to do a hypnosis show tonight for a college up in Marysville, CA. Susan Rosen called me yesterday to fill in for her because she lost her engine leaving Las Vegas on her way here. It’s gonna be a long day and night.
Just a quick mention: Scott Land, of Los Angeles marionette fame, told me about a new way of accepting credit cards. He said I was going to thank him, and he is right! I use it all time time now.
Even if you don’t accept credit cards now, you should sign up for this service. It’s free, and you will be glad you did! It’s called Square and it works with your smart phone. The fees are .0275% of the transaction, much less than other credit card processing companies, and there is no transaction or annual fee, just a plain and simple .0275%! It works with your smart phone, the reader device is free (they will mail it to you), and it’s really cool to use!!!
Thank me later... :-)
