About the Show

A Unique Family-Friendly Entertainment Experience-Based Upon the Traditional Traveling Medicine Shows from the Turn-of-the-Century, 1870- 1930, a significant renaissance period in the theatre and arts in America.

Unlike any other show you will experience, Dr Solar's show is the Premier Traveling Medicine Show On the West Coast, a truly Americana presentation in the format that took varieties-style entertainment and worldly wonders to Small-town, U.S.A.

The Doctor comes from times past when magic was in its Golden Years, vaudeville in its heyday. While those theatres flourished, Hollywood was abuzz with an emerging technological, cultural phenomenon (motion pictures). His show is reminiscent of that era. He seems stuck in the 1920s when Comedy was King and always suitable for mixed company and family faire.

From the moment the Doctor cranks up the "orchestra", you will be dazzled by astonishing feats of mentalism, magic, animal productions, all animated with playful, comedic physical antics. The Doctor brings his show straight to your local, be it a school, a library, a fair, a corporate shin-dig or that special person's birthday celebration.

Yes, this Doctor still makes house calls, and you don't need an H.M.O. to afford it, very family-friendly rates.

About Dr Solar

Dr Solar, aka Terry Robinson, was a child prodigy of ventriloquism. At age seven, he received his first dummy, then popular Danny O'Day. Since age nine, he has worked with his current knee-pal, Ducky O'Neil. With Ducky, they became a major fundraising force for the Y.M.C.A., which carried well into adulthood. He turned professional at age ten, performing for birthday parties and other fundraisers, and then included magic into his act.

The Good Doctor has been well received before tens of thousands of people, including service clubs, corporate affairs, pre-schools, elementary schools, libraries, fairs, and countless birthday celebrations. In addition, he has had appearances on such programs as Good Morning America, The Today Show, The Daily Show, The Tonight Show, United Airlines, News in the Sky, and the Discovery Channel.

He is a thirty-year pioneer in solar living, having built his 100% passive solar home in 1979. The first solar panels for residential use were sold in 1978 by REAL GOODS, then in Willits, Ca., the world's solar capital. By the mid-nineties, only 500 solar homes existed in California. In 1983, not content to merely offer up his home for solar tours, the Good Doctor decided it was time to spread his eco-message through his entertaining Solar Road Show.

" part of our celebration of Sacramento Public Library's 150th anniversary, (Dr Solar's) was lively and engaging. It included ventriloquism, puppets, magic with a live bird and rabbit and nice props such as a Chinese gong and fancy robe that one boy got to wear as Dr Solar's assistant. Other props reinforced the old-time feel of the show and its gentle stories about life in the olden days... I intend to book Dr Solar's Good Time, Sunshine, Traveling Medicine Show at our library again."

Christine Davis, Youth Services Librarian, McKinley Library, Sacramento.

"Let me tell you about Dr Solar! We had the MOST WONDERFUL experience of his magical travelling show during our Summer Reading Program.....we had to set up in the greater part of the library itself. It turned out to be a good thing, as he brought in our biggest crowd ever for a single event, and we needed the extra space and chairs. Dr Solar's costumes, puppets, props and demeanor were professional in every way. He was funny, but never inappropriate and kept the crowd delighted and in control the entire time...."

Kathleen Stewart, Programs & Outreach, Yuba County Library indoor show
